Licensed Content Pricing
Licensed content is the only paid product on the SDX platform. It consists of aggregate, anonymised data products derived from contributor data and approved by the SDX board.

What licensed content includes
Licensed content products fall into three categories:
1. Benchmark subscriptions
Ongoing access to aggregate benchmark datasets, updated quarterly. Products include:
- Market benchmarks by use type and geography — Percentile distributions, medians, and quartile thresholds for EUI, carbon intensity, and water intensity.
- Custom peer group benchmarks — Tailored datasets for a buyer's specific portfolio composition.
2. Market indices
Time-series indices that track market-wide sustainability performance trends.
- SDX Global Index — Aggregate performance across all buildings on the platform.
- Regional indices — Broken out by country, state/province, or city.
- Sector indices — Office, retail, residential, industrial, etc.
3. Data packs
Bulk datasets for research, underwriting, and risk modelling.
- Anonymised building-level data — Individual building records with identifiers removed.
- Emission factor datasets — Grid and fuel emission factors used in SDX calculations.
- Stranding risk datasets — CRREM pathway alignment data at aggregate level.
Pricing model
Licensed content is priced on an annual subscription basis. Pricing varies by product, coverage scope, and delivery method. Contact the SDX commercial team at sales@sdx.dev for a quote.
General pricing principles:
- Transparent — Prices are listed in the SDX product catalogue. No opaque negotiation-only pricing.
- Scalable — Volume discounts are available for buyers licensing multiple products.
- Fair — Pricing is benchmarked against comparable market data products.
Free for contributors
If you contribute data to SDX, you can access any licensed content product that includes data from your buildings — at no cost — for your own internal use. This means:
- View aggregate benchmarks that include your buildings on your dashboard
- Download data packs that feature your portfolio's segment
- Use index data in your own internal reporting and board presentations
The "own internal use" restriction means you cannot redistribute or resell licensed content to others. If you want to share licensed content with a third party (e.g. include SDX benchmarks in a product you sell), you need a re-licensing arrangement. See Licensing Terms.
Board approval
Every licensed content product must be approved by the SDX board before it can be offered for sale. The board evaluates:
- Privacy — Can any individual building be identified? (Products must be sufficiently anonymised.)
- Contributor benefit — Does the product serve the platform's mission?
- Fair pricing — Is the price reasonable relative to the value delivered?
- Revenue sharing — How does the product contribute to the Data Dividend pool?
