Licensed Content Overview
Licensed content is the only paid product on the SDX platform. It provides aggregate, anonymised real estate sustainability data to investors, lenders, index providers, researchers, and other third-party buyers.
What is licensed content?
Licensed content is derived from the building-level data contributed to SDX by property owners and their representatives. The raw contributor data is never sold. Instead, SDX produces aggregate, anonymised products that reveal market-level trends, benchmark distributions, and sector performance without identifying individual buildings.
Product categories
SDX offers three categories of licensed content:
Benchmark subscriptions
Ongoing access to aggregate benchmark datasets updated quarterly. Compare portfolio performance against market medians, quartiles, and percentile distributions segmented by use type, geography, and building size.
Market indices
Time-series indices tracking sustainability performance trends across the global real estate market. Available at global, regional, country, city, and sector levels.
Data packs
Bulk datasets for research, underwriting, and risk modelling. Includes anonymised building-level records, emission factor datasets, and stranding risk data.
See Available Products for the full catalogue.
Who buys licensed content
Typical buyers include:
- Institutional investors — Compare portfolio performance against market benchmarks
- Lenders and insurers — Assess climate and energy risk in loan portfolios
- Index providers — Build ESG indices and sustainability ratings
- Consultancies — Advise clients with market-level context
- Researchers — Academic and policy research on building performance
Pricing
Licensed content is priced on an annual subscription basis. Pricing varies by product, scope, and delivery method. See Licensed Content Pricing for details.
Free for data contributors
If you contribute data to SDX, you can access any licensed content product that includes data from your buildings — at no cost — for your own internal use. You do not need to purchase a subscription to see how your portfolio compares to the market.
The free access applies to internal use only. Re-distributing or re-licensing content requires a commercial arrangement. See Licensing Terms.
Board governance
Every licensed content product is approved by the SDX board before it can be offered for sale. The board ensures products meet privacy, anonymisation, and contributor-benefit standards. See Board Governance.
Revenue sharing
A portion of licensed content revenue is returned to data contributors through the Data Dividend. This aligns incentives: better data leads to more valuable products, which generates more revenue, which flows back to contributors.
